De Grote Post - Collage Animation for Event Promotion

De Grote Post is Ostend’s leading cultural and social epicenter. Through hosting the Ostend Film Festival, they attract a lot of fresh faces, presenting a prime moment for some self-promotion. In accordance with their existing style, they wanted a collage animation.

The festival gave them a 30 sec ad slot, but with everything De Grote Post offers, there was a lot of info to put in that small timeframe.

But does a croquette improve if you stuff more shrimp in it? Well yes, yes it does! So we stuffed this proverbial croquette with as much info as it could take.

The result is a whirlwind journey through the building, where each space is infused with atmosphere, Ostend's culinary delights, and esteemed individuals.

The former post office building in Ostend now serves as a bustling cultural and social center, bringing a myriad of activities and events to the coastal town. Beyond just film screenings, it accommodates conferences, workshops, concerts, comedy shows, circus performances, and family gatherings. Even the building in itself is worth a visit, as it is one of the few realised projects by Gaston Eysselinck, one of Belgium's foremost modernist architects.

With an abundance of interesting features, we opted for a fast-paced exploration through the building, where every room is alive with ambiance, Ostend's culinary treasures, and noteworthy personalities.

Depicting the rooms was crucial. Thankfully, we had ample source material, and within DGP's distinctive style, mixed media collage played a significant role. Drawing from archival images, we reconstructed exterior views, transformed concert photographs to portray an Arno concert, and utilised excerpts from their program books to showcase the variety of venues available for rental.
